Mission RCMP say a 35-year-old man is dead after being struck in an apparent hit-and-run along Lougheed Highway overnight.

Paramedics discovered the man’s body in a ditch on the north side of the highway at around 11 a.m. Saturday. Police say the victim was likely struck sometime overnight.

Investigators believe the man was walking along the shoulder of the roadway when he was fatally hit, according to Sgt. Shaun Wright.

Police have not taken any suspects into custody and are withholding the name of the victim, who is known to them, pending notification of next of kin.

Debris including headlights and pieces of plastic were discovered at the scene on Highway 7 between Stave Lake Street and Manson Street.

The discovery shut down part of the highway for several hours Saturday. It reopened just before 4 p.m. Saturday.

Anyone who was in the area or has any information is asked to call Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161.
