A 54-year-old suspect has been charged in connection with a suspicious death at a home in West Vancouver’s prestigious British Properties.

Police found a man dead at the King Georges Way home late Saturday night after being called to investigate a report of a violent confrontation.

The cause of death hasn’t been confirmed but Const. Jeff Palmer said it wasn’t random.

“It’s certainly disconcerting that there’s a violent circumstance in a home in a neighbourhood that’s generally a very quiet, very low crime and peaceful neighbourhood,” Palmer said, “but there’s no reason at this stage in the investigation to believe this offence represented any general risk to the public.”

A suspect was arrested early Sunday morning and on Monday police confirmed Li Zhao has been charged with one count of interfering with a dead body.  Court documents allege Zhao interfered by "cutting up the body."

Zhao’s name matches one of the listed co-owners of the home.

Palmer said the suspect and deceased knew each other, but wouldn’t elaborate on how.

The death is still under investigation by West Vancouver Police and the Vancouver Police Department’s Homicide Unit, and the home has been secured for further forensic examination.

Zhao is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
