Transit Police arrested a 44-year-old man on Thursday for carrying a replica gun on a bus en route to downtown Vancouver.

Police say Francis Boivin, of no fixed address, had the weapon tucked into his belt, in sight of another passenger on the bus.

That passenger called police at 1 p.m. to say Boivin had gotten off the bus at the intersection of Granville Street and Broadway. He was located a short time later and taken into custody.

Police say the gun was a non-functioning replica of an old flintlock-style handgun.

Boivin is “well-known” to police, who say he was in breach of two probation conditions: Not to possess any firearms or replicas, and not to be found in the area in which he was arrested. He appeared in court and was released on recognizance with similar conditions.

He is scheduled to appear in court again soon.
