Vancouver police have arrested a 20-year-old man who allegedly exposed himself to two teenage girls and forced one into his car Tuesday morning.

The first victim, a 13-year-old girl, was walking near Mackenzie Street and 45th Avenue around 8 a.m. when a man in a car pulled up next to her and asked for directions.

Police said the suspect then forced her into the vehicle and exposed himself to her. Fortunately, she was able to escape.

About a half hour later, a 16-year-old girl was approached in a similar way near Dunbar Street and 37th Avenue. Police said a man in a car exposed himself to her and she ran away.

Neither victim was physically injured but police said they’re both traumatized by what happened.

“Both of these girls showed a lot of courage by running to a safe place and calling for help,” Sgt. Randy Fincham said in a statement. “By reporting the incident immediately, police were able to identify the suspect and take a dangerous person off the street.”

Officers arrested the suspect at around 12:30 p.m. and are recommending charges of forcible confinement, indecent exposure and fraud under $5,000 against him.

The man, whose name hasn’t been released, is being held in police custody.

Anyone with information on the incidents is asked to call the Vancouver Police Sex Crimes Unit at 604-717-0601.
