Anyone travelling with BC Ferries Thanksgiving Monday may find themselves receiving a hefty helping of frustration in lieu of holiday dinner.
Travel woes have persisted all weekend after a fire knocked out the Spirit of Vancouver Island Friday. The ship is one of the corporation's biggest and busiest vessels.
BC Ferries says it is still honouring reservations for any sailing between Victoria's Swartz Bay terminal and Tsawassen on the mainland, but says delays can be expected for both car and walk-on passengers.
The company will not be accepting the pre-paid assured-loading tickets (ALT). These fares normally normally allow non-reservation travellers guaranteed access.
ALTs will be accepted on the Tsawwassen - Duke Point and Horseshoe Bay - Departure Bay routes.
Preliminary assessments of the ship estimate it will be out of service for at least a week.
The popular Tsawwassen - Swartz Bay route will continue to be serviced by three vessels: the Spirit of British Columbia, the Coastal Celebration and the Queen of New Westminster.
