A two-year-old girl has died after her body was found in a pond in rural Langley, Mounties confirmed.

The little girl was last seen playing with some other children on Saturday afternoon in the 25400-block of Robertson Crescent, but was reported missing around 3 p.m.

Emergency crews were deployed, including search and rescue, Mounties, and firefighters. An RCMP helicopter also searched the five-acre property with an infrared camera.

A small, three-foot deep pond on the property was drained to assist in the search, says Sgt. Garth Huziak of Langley RCMP. The child’s body was found in the water around 7 p.m.

The little girl was rushed to BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, but was pronounced dead shortly after.

The incident is not being considered suspicious at this time, and an investigation is ongoing.

“At this time we don’t see it as anything other than a tragic event,” said Huziak.

The girl's name has not been released.
