It might be a little old and a little toasty in the summer, but a 1980s camper van is getting a lot of attention on Airbnb.

Although it has no bathroom, a Dodge Ram van nicknamed "Moonbeam" is booked solid. The van is rented out by Luna Mammon, and is currently parked on a side street in Kitsilano.

The van comes with a double bed, bead curtain, and large jar in case of bathroom emergencies. The squeamish are encouraged to visit nearby coffee shops for use of traditional facilities.

Adventurers can spend a night in Moonbeam for between $50 and $80 per night, depending on demand.

Mammon lives inside the van when it isn't booked up, and said at first she was unsure of posting her home for rent. Ultimately, she decided to list it as a way of making money to pay back a loan.

"Then I looked on Airbnb and I saw some camper vans, and they weren't as cool as mine… I thought I might as well try it because it's free to sign up," she told CTV Vancouver on Tuesday.

"Within an hour, I had an immediate booking."

Since then, the response has been overwhelming, she said. Mammon called the venture "easy money," saying all she has to do is keep it clean and find a place to stay.

She has to book blocks of time off for herself when she gets tired of sleeping on friends' couches and in tents.

She said her experience as an Airbnb host has been "amazing," adding that she meets her guests first to give them a quick tour.

"I offer a genuine local experience of how real Vancouver locals live, because I'm not the only one that lives in a van in Vancouver because prices are so expensive for rent," Mammon said.

"The point of Airbnb is to bring travellers to have a local experience and this is definitely a local experience. I think people like that."

The City of Vancouver says anyone renting a van should have a valid business licence, and parking restrictions must be obeyed.

Until the city cracks down, Mammon hopes the cash will continue to roll in.
