Police have recovered a revolver following reports that an international student threatened to bring a gun to a North Vancouver high school to harm a teacher.

RCMP said staff members at Seycove Secondary were made aware of the threat on Tuesday morning, but did not say how they found out about the allegation.

Staff told police that the teenage boy named in the threat was an international student. Officers said they could not say which country the boy was from because his identity is protected under the Privacy Act. They also could not provide his exact age.

Staff acted immediately, police said, contacting both the school administration and the RCMP.

Officers said staff and investigators "worked through planned response procedures," though they did not provide details of what the procedures entailed.

No one was injured, and a male student was arrested. The student has since left the country.

Police said a revolver was recovered during their investigation, but could not say where it was found. When asked whether the weapon was brought to the school, police said the matter is "being looked at."

The RCMP is also investigating a second male international student in connection with the same incident. Police said that student will not be attending the school as officers investigate.

Officers are also interviewing other students to see if they have more information about the details.

"The safety of all students and staff is a policing top priority," police said.

"This situation was handled quickly and, as a result, the threat was immediately addressed."

Police said the school is safe for students and there is no reason for parents to be concerned. Counsellors attended the building to provide support for students and staff.

Students are encouraged to report any "worrisome behaviour" to the school administration or to police, RCMP said.
