REWARDS PROGRAM EXTENDED

Karen wrote CTV News after receiving a notice that her Shoppers Optimum points will be terminated at the end of the year. She wants to know why.

Turns out, like Air Miles did, Shoppers Drug Mart has changed its tune and is no longer terminating the program at the end of December.

Shoppers told CTV News there is now no immediate plans to end the program, but if that changes there will be a 45-day notice period given to customers. Shoppers says it understands the value of its customer loyalty program and it continues to be a major focus of the company.

TRAVEL HEALTH INSURANCE

Gabrielle wrote McLaughlin on Your Side after seeking medical treatment at a clinic in Maui. She was told no clinics in Hawaii will accept Canadian travel insurance.

We contacted several medical clinics in Maui and it is true that most won't accept Canadian travel insurance up front. But, in most cases, you are still covered.

With most policies you have to call your insurer beforehand and get approval before going to a clinic. You then front the bill and submit a claim afterwards to get your money back.

The exception is hospital visits. Most insurers will pay those bills directly to the hospital.

NEW APP GIVES RESTAURANT INSPECTION DATA

There's a new made-in-Vancouver app that will bring restaurant inspection data right to your phone.

It's called FoodSpect and it crunches all the public data on health inspections into an easy-to-navigate system. Things like food protection, equipment, utensils and cleaning are listed within the app, as well as employee ratings.

You can even customize it to create lists of your favourite restaurants which can then be easily checked.
