Metro Vancouver’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken over the probe into human remains found in North Vancouver on Saturday, according to police.

Sgt. Jennifer Pound said the grisly discovery was made off a gravel foot trail near the 2000-block of Curling Road.

The body was found by a local resident after several neighbours noticed a terrible smell emanating from the area.

“You can smell it a bit now, it comes in whiffs,” said Paul Murphy, who lives next to the crime scene.

Police said due to the level of decomposition of the body, it may take several days until information on the sex or age of the victim is known.

Homicide investigators continued to canvas the area Monday and have closed off the foot trail from Belle Isle Place to Curling Road.
