The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is now probing a fatal blaze in Mission that happened in the early hours of Saturday.

Eighty-six-year-old William Philip Murphy was found dead after a fire tore through his mobile home.

“You always see him down at the superstore playing keno, always, that's where you find Bill, said neighbour Nelson Grant.

Police now believe it was deliberately set and have called the homicide investigation team.

The fire is the latest in a series of suspicious blazes set near homes in garbage cans and dumpsters in Abbotsford and Mission that mounties believe were set by the same person.

Now that one of the fires has claimed a life, police are urging people to be on alert.

“We are aware that Mission had a few incidents in the last few weeks involving arsons, and for that reason we don't want to take any chances,” said Cpl. Dominic Duchesneau of IHIT.

Police won’t say how or where the most recent fire began but they are appealing to the public for anyone with any information to come forward and contact Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161.
