The District of North Vancouver Fire Department is once again reminding people to be prepared when heading into the woods after a young man suffering from hypothermia was rescued from a trail this weekend.

The 20-year-old man went missing from his group of friends sometime on Friday night.

Officials say he was found along the Baden-Powell trail early Saturday morning. The man had several cuts to his head and was in and out of consciousness. He was found partially submerged in water, and was evacuated off the trail on a stretcher.

“We don't know how he got into that position, but apparently some friends were there overnight and he might have wandered off and taken a fall and spent the night partially in the water,” said Capt. David Franco, District of North Vancouver Fire.

The man was rushed to Lions Gate Hospital for treatment, where he is being treated. There is no word if alcohol was a factor in the incident.

Fire officials say the temperatures are still very cool at night, so if you are headed camping be sure to bring along warm blankets and clothing. Further, always stick with the group and never wander off without letting someone know where you are going and when you’ll be back.
