Hundreds of bikers paraded to a banquet hall in South Vancouver to mourn a high-profile Hells Angel gunned down this month, as a flare-up in gang rivalries suggests there could be more violence.

Full-patch Hells Angels from as far away as Ontario, as well as men sporting leather jackets with the logos of Jesters, Veterans, Throttle Lockers and a host of others came to pay their respects to Bob Green.

“He was a good guy, a good poker player, and a hell of a Hells Angel,” said funeral attendee Gary Cahill, who said he had known Green for 16 years. “It’s a huge loss for all of us.”

Green, 57, was shot and killed at a party in Langley on October 16. Police have charged 27-year-old Jason Wallace in his death.

Wallace has been identified as a member of a street-level distribution “856 gang” that was mentored by Green. They began as a group of high-school students in Langley and are now a group that operates as far east as Ontario.

Eleven days after Green’s death, a dismembered body was found on a Langley road. Police have since identified him as Shaun Clary, who they say has gang ties himself.

Police kept a close eye on the funeral, with several members of the gang crime unit watching across the street.

“The Hells Angels are a criminal organization. Our officers are there as a result of public safety concerns,” said the S/Sgt. Randy Fincham.
