A high-risk sex offender who failed to show up at his Vancouver halfway house over the weekend has been located and taken into custody.

Christopher Russell Schafer, 39, has an extensive criminal history that includes sexual assault, break-and-enter, uttering threats and assaulting a police officer.

He was on a long-term supervision order before disappearing off authorities' radar on Saturday. A Canada-wide warrant has since been issued for Schafer's arrest.

It's not the first time Schafer has gone missing; he breached parol by leaving his halfway house in 2010.

On Wednesday, officers said he had been located and taken into custody, where he remains.
