The so-called Godfather of gelato masters wants to share his sweet secrets with a lucky group of Vancouverites.

James Coleridge is the winner of five international awards, including the 2014 International Gelato Master of the Year and he calls Vancouver home.

"If we can teach the world about gelato, and give people a healthier choice,  we've done something good in our life and that's what motivates me," he said.

So Coleridge is giving back, welcoming Vancouverites into his gelato laboratory at Bella Gelateria in Yaletown to learn all about the art of creating the sweet treat.

“It’s truly an honour to be able to learn from someone who’s won so many, multiple awards,” said Wendy Wong, Gelato 101 student.

From the focus on fresh ingredients, to tips on getting the best mix, Gelato 101 students get a hands-on look at the process from beginning to the delicious end.

Coleridge has been named the Godfather of all gelato grand masters in the world, an honour that brings the upbeat artisan to tears.

"You listen to everybody saying no you can't and then when you do it, you go ha! I proved you all wrong. So at the end of the day, I'm going to prove the world wrong and show somebody in Vancouver can make the best gelato in the world," he said.

Coleridge says his mission is to convert the world to artisan Italian gelato, one lick at a time.

The classes starts on Saturday, November 22nd and cost $60. They’re three hours long and include a personalized apron and a half kilogram take home container of gelato. Click here for more details.
