Hundreds of family, friends, police and firefighters gathered Sunday to mourn the young couple who died in a horrific house fire in Victoria last weekend.

Emily Morin and Mark Mitchell were killed when a fire broke out Feb. 16 at their home on Johnson Street.

A combined service was held for the couple, who friends called inspiring, at the Friendship Community Church.

“She was just always so positive and so caring of everybody around her,” said Emily’s longtime friend Dylyn Wilkinson. “She was just such a sweet person.”

In a pamphlet handed out at the service, the families of Emily and Mark thanked the community for its support during their difficult time.

Fundraising efforts have helped both families and the surviving victims.

$4,000 was raised to help the Morins, while a trust fund has been set up at Vancity to help survivors.

The trust is under then name “For the Johnson Street Fire Victims.”

Donations can also be made through online banking by emailing johnsonstreetfirevictims@gmail.com.

A separate service was held Friday for Emily and Mark’s roommate Georgia Klap, the third person who died in the fire.
