A French bulldog that was allegedly dog-napped from a Vancouver tattoo parlour six days ago has been found safe in the Fraser Valley.

Police confirmed the dog, Chloe, was located roaming through a residential neighbourhood in Abbotsford Tuesday by animal control officers.

Sgt. Randy Fincham said the dog will soon be reunited with her owner, who was working at The Fall tattoo shop when the dog was taken last Thursday evening.

“We made contact with the owner this morning,” Fincham said, adding that the woman “was elated to learn that the dog had been found.”

It will be partly up to the owner to decide whether police pursue criminal charges, he added.

“There are circumstances involving the theft of this dog that will play a mitigating factor,” Fincham said.

The alleged dog-napping was filmed on the parlour’s surveillance camera, which captured a woman picking up Chloe, inching toward the door then running into the street. It appears she then got into a black car that was waiting outside.

Police believe the theft may have stemmed from a dispute between the dog’s former and current owners, but said the former owner was not the woman filmed inside the shop.

That suspect has been identified and is known to police.

“Police are in the process of speaking to her now, or attempting to speak to her,” Fincham said.

Investigators are still working to determine what happened to Chloe over the last week, but said the dog was found healthy.
