The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been called to probe the death of a recovery house worker whose body was found Tuesday in New Westminster.

The deceased was discovered around 5 p.m. at the sober house where he was living. The facility is operated by the Last Door Recovery Society, which has identified him as 39-year-old employee Jason Collett.

His cause of death hasn’t been confirmed but police believe he was met with foul play.

Collett worked as a crane operator by day and an evening support worker by night, according to a statement on Last Door’s Facebook page.

“Whether Jason was waving at you from a crane tower over metrotown, pruning a tree, or working through some written exercises with a client, he was kind, courteous, considerate and diligent,” it said.

“We have grown because of him and will grow more as we learn from this most devastating experience.”

Collett was also a certified search and rescue volunteer.

IHIT said the motive for his death hasn’t been determined, but investigators are working with the New Westminster Police Department to determine what happened.

“We are currently canvassing the area, speaking with witnesses and processing the scene,” Staff Sgt. Jennifer Pound said in a statement.

Collett’s family has been notified.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the IHIT tip line at 1-877-551-4448, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 if they wish to remain anonymous.
