Five people were forced out on the streets near 137 and 97A Avenue in Surrey after a fire ripped through their home Monday evening.

Surrey Fire officials say when crews arrived the home was fully engulfed. The fire was extinguished quickly but damage was extensive and the house will have to be torn down.

Neighbours say they believe the home was previously renovated and was used as a rooming house. The owner was not inside at the time.

All the residents have found temporary shelter from Emergency Social Services. Fire officials don’t know how the fire started.
