Fire crews in Abbotsford extinguished a blaze that broke out at an abandoned trailer park Saturday morning.

Crews arrived to a fully-involved trailer fire at around 7:30 Saturday morning and quickly formed an aggressive defensive attack to put it out.

They managed to beat the flames down before the fire spread to surrounding trailers. No one was injured.

“These are abandoned, they are up for demolition, so it’s hard to say how much damage dollar-wise it is, but it was kept isolated pretty much to the originating trailer,” said Abbotsford Fire Rescue Asst. Chief Jeff Adams.

CTV News spoke with several people who said they were homeless and living at the abandoned park, formerly Allwood Estates. They said a man had been staying in the trailer that went up in flames, but he wasn't there when the fire broke out.

Ward Draper from the 5 and 2 Ministries said it's not uncommon for Abbotsford's homeless population to seek shelter in vacant parks or structures.

"It's an indicator that we definitely have a shortage of supplies for shelter and housing, and our folks and our friends outside are taking what necessary steps they are to survive," Draper said. "Fires are a regular reality for our friends in homelessness."

A cause has not yet been determined, and police say the fire does not appear to be suspicious.
