A woman suffered life-threatening injuries after she was hit by a falling tree during a windstorm in Surrey Saturday afternoon.

The tree fell just before 12:30 p.m. on 100 Avenue near 148th Street according to Surrey RCMP.

Police said the woman, who is in her 40s, was walking with her daughter when she saw trees and branches falling. As she was alerting other pedestrians and cars, a tree fell on her.

The woman’s daughter was able to jump out of the way and was not injured. The woman was taken to Royal Columbian Hospital with life threatening injuries.

Investigators are attempting to identify the victim.

Surrey RCMP urged people to stay home in these hazardous conditions and only travel if necessary as trees, power lines have fallen and intersection lights are out throughout Surrey.
