A driver has died and his two passengers are in hospital following a crash in Langley on Friday evening.

Police said they were called to the area of 72 Avenue and 203 Street at approximately 5:30 p.m. for a report of an erratic driver. Mounties were told the driver of a Cadillac was speeding in the area and veering into oncoming traffic.

The driver of the Cadillac then collided with two parked cars, then continued along 72nd and crashed into a pickup truck before spinning off the road near Crush Crescent, RCMP said in a statement.

From CTV's Chopper 9 it appeared that the car had gone over a cement barrier on the side of the road. Significant damage could be seen to the front ends of both the truck and the car, and debris was scattered across the roadway.

Police said the driver of the Cadillac died at the scene, and his two passengers -- who were initially trapped in the vehicle -- were both taken to hospital with critical injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck was not seriously injured, officers said.

Police asked other drivers to avoid the intersection for several hours as they investigate. Anyone who witnessed the crash and has not yet spoken to police is asked to call RCMP at 604-532-3200.
