Dozens of hotel patrons had to be treated after an apparent pepper spray attack in a Vancouver hotel Saturday.

Authorities were called to the Super 8 Motel on southeast Marine Drive early Saturday evening after a guest on the fourth floor reportedly received a knock on the door, answered it, and had pepper spray discharged at them.

The floor was evacuated, with affected guests spilling out on to the street while the fumes were ventilated.

“We were on the fourth floor and we were choking and we couldn’t breathe,” said Coquitlam woman Vera Lynn Hamilton. “We had to leave the room and we started choking again.”

Only one person was directly pepper-sprayed and others affected were treated on site, according to Vancouver Fire battalion chief Jeff Coroliuc.

No word from Vancouver police if any arrests have been made.
