Students at the New Westminster campus of Douglas College have the day off as B.C. Government and Service Employees Union members stage a one-day strike.

Support staff at the college hope the walkout will pressure the government and college to reach a new deal.

BCGEU President Darryl Walker says the 304 support staff have been offered less than half of what similar workers at UBC and SFU have accepted.

Walker says all classes and activities at the Douglas College campus in New West have been cancelled for the day, but will resume tomorrow.
