Editor's note, Oct. 28: 53-year-old Samuel James Calladine has been charged with manslaughter and aggravated assault. The deceased man has been identified as 48-year-old Rickey Gordon Melanson, a man whom Calladine has known for years, police said.
A 53-year-old man is in custody and could face murder charges in connection to a double stabbing that left one person dead and injured another.
A body was discovered after police were called to a report of a double stabbing at a homeless camp near Rumble Street and Griffiths Drive in Burnaby just after 8 p.m. Monday night.
An injured man was taken to hospital and has since been released.
Officers found a second injured man nearby, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators were on the scene overnight and the coroner removed the deceased from a wooded area early Tuesday.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken over the case and says the incident is being treated as a murder.
Cpl. Meghan Foster said it appears to be a targeted attack between people who knew each other.
A man known to the victims was taken into custody and is facing possible charges.
Foster said it does not appear that there is a connection to the Oct. 9 murder of Kevin Knuff that happened at a nearby homeless camp.
