The BC SPCA is making a public appeal for donations to help fund surgery for a dog with a cantaloupe-size tumour hanging from his neck.

Vet bills for Biggy, a nine-year-old Shar-Pei, have skyrocketed to more than $3,000 after the dog was seized during a recent animal cruelty investigation, according to the SPCA.

The animal’s numerous health issues include an eye condition that requires corrective surgery, a diet-related skin condition and the massive growth that has been hanging from his neck for nearly three years – which the SPCA says must be operated on immediately.

“We have already spent more than $600 on Biggy’s blood work, medication and special food and we could really use help in making sure he gets the surgery he needs as soon as possible,” said Ivanna Ferris, manager of the BC SPCA’s Chilliwack branch.

Biggy’s owner couldn’t afford the surgery and he was signed over to the SPCA’s care, according to the agency.

The BC SPCA is accepting donations for Biggy through its website or in person at 6796 Hopedale Rd. in Chilliwack.
