Investigators are looking into the discovery of human remains found in a wooded area in Abbotsford.

A local resident came across the remains on a rural property in the 30900-block of Downes Road around 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The coroner, Forensic Identification members, Major Crime detectives, and police officers were all at the scene.

“We did confirm that we did believe it was human remains,” said Abbotsford Police Sgt. Judy Bird.

Resident Dusty Faye said he has doubts about the safety of his neighbourhood.

“I thought it was a nice neighbourhood and everything to live in,” he said. “Now I’m starting to think, ‘Where the heck am I living?’”

Mike Inman said he is familiar with his neighbours who live on the property where the remains were found.

“Nice people, we’ve known them for years,” he said. “We’ve been here 30 years, they’ve been here longer.”

Though the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) did not confirm any details about what was found, neighbours told CTV News police are asking questions that suggest the remains may have been on the property for weeks or even months.

“We’re currently working to establish those facts, and when we have concrete details we will update,” IHIT Cpl. Megan Foster confirmed in a statement to CTV.

Anyone with information about this incident should call the IHIT Tip Line at 1-877-551- 4448 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
