Human remains have been found at a gravel pit just outside of Whistler, according to B.C. RCMP.

A resident notified police the evening of June 17 after discovering what appeared to be human remains outside the gravel pit.

The pit is located in the Function Junction area, around 15 minutes from Whistler.

Given the state of decomposition, the gender, identity, and cause of death are currently unknown, according to the RCMP’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team. It is unclear if foul play is involved.

"Our priority at this stage is to identify the individual and notify family members,” Sgt. Stephanie Ashtonsaid in a release.  “An autopsy will be required to piece together some important information and help shed some light on the circumstances leading to this individual's death.”
