A basement suite tenant found dead in an east Vancouver home after a fire was murdered, Vancouver police said Friday.

The arson happened the same day as the woman who owned the home and lived upstairs was killed in a bizarre bus accident.

The victim has been identified as Edward Stobie Billy, 20. Police haven’t made any arrests in the investigation.

The scorched residence, on East 63rd Ave, was owned by Nanjar Dhesi, 75. The senior died on June 15 after falling out of a bus that started rolling backwards down Ross St.

Police said the fire started in her home was deliberate and more than 20 people lived in the residence upstairs.

This is Vancouver’s third homicide of 2013.

Anyone with information about this homicide is asked to contact the Vancouver Police Major Crime Section at (604) 717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
