Less than a week after Vancouver police launched a safety blitz warning pedestrians about road safety, new dashcam video shows how quickly things can go wrong on the road.

Video posted to Reddit taken at an intersection at Rupert Street and Euclid Avenue on Saturday shows a pedestrian narrowly avoiding being struck by a car.

He was stepping out into a marked crosswalk, but appears to have been partially obscured by a parked car.

The man immediately jumped back to avoid getting struck by the vehicle, but it was a very near-miss.

ICBC says about 1,300 pedestrians are hurt are killed in intersections every year.

The insurance agency says failure to yield the right of way to pedestrians is one of the leading causes of crashes that result in injuries.

The Vancouver Police Department advises pedestrians to make eye contact with approaching drivers before entering a crosswalk – and don't assume that people driving can see you.
