A Vancouver man who is clucking mad about the city’s "outdated" taxi system has turned his vehicle into a free cab in order to draw attention to the problem.

Kyle MacDonald dresses up as a rooster and drives around the city offering free rides to people in his Toyota Matrix.

“If anyone wants a free ride from a rooster, I’m your man,” he said.

The 34-year-old offers his services on Craiglist and through the Twitter account @YesFreeTaxi, where Vancouverites are encouraged to tweet him to get a lift.

MacDonald gives preference to “the most ridiculous and fun ride requests.”

He’s a big advocate of ride-sharing companies like Uber, and wants to city and province to allow the controversial service to operate in B.C.

MacDonald says he wears the “silly” costume to draw attention to what he says is an absurd situation in Vancouver when it comes to taxis. He wants his service to act as a public education tool for people to get informed about new transportation options.

“We've done great things with Zipcar, Car2Go, options for people, but I believe innovative ride-sharing technologies are going to be a massive player in the future especially when we get into self-driving automated vehicular technology," he told CTV News.

@YesFreeTaxi is a completely free service, and riders are not allowed to pay the driver for the ride.

MacDonald, who has been offering rides since the summer, plans on giving out hundreds of free rides in the weeks ahead.

You may recognize him from his One Red Paperclip campaign. He bartered his way up from the single paperclip to a house in Kipling, Saskatchewan, over the course of a year in 2005.
