Salvation Army’s Christmas Kettle Campaign
The Salvation Army's annual Christmas Kettle Campaign is aimed at raising money and awareness about the continued need for social service programs to support vulnerable individuals throughout Canada.
For more than 120 years, the Kettles have been, and continue to be, an important way to raise funds to support the community and social service work of The Salvation Army in our communities. 86 cents of every dollar donated to The Salvation Army is used directly in charitable activities – exceeding the Canada Revenue Agency guideline of 65 percent donation efficiency.

The top team of Amiel Gladstone, Veda Hille, and Charles Demers return to the York with a way beyond Disney retelling of sweet little Cinderella. Have you ever read the original version? It’s messed up! Bring the family back to the York for some upside-down holiday cheer and watch as we dress up some of Vancouver’s favourite performers in fairy tale finery and set them loose on this fantastic East Vancouver tradition.
Recommended for a general audience. As an advisory to adults who might bring young people, The Cultch recommends Cinderella: An East Van Panto for ages 5 and up.
Illuminations at Heritage Christmas
The Burnaby Village Museum’s Heritage Christmas returns with more illuminated displays and shimmering lights to enjoy this year! Enjoy brilliant displays from the multi-coloured lights on the huge sequoia tree by the carousel, to the lacy white lights on the maple tree near Hill Street, to the enchanted lit path between Elworth and the Bandstand.
A stroll through the streets of the Village uncovers wreaths, cedar swags and vintage-themed displays. Special entertainment is scheduled throughout the season including theatre and marionette performances, choirs, and musicians. Several family favourites are back including a craft for children, storytelling sessions, baking in the Farmhouse and, of course, visits with Father Christmas.

Arts Club Theatre
Avenue Q is the musical story of Princeton, a bright-eyed college graduate who arrives in New York City looking for love, a job, and his purpose in life. The only neighbourhood he can afford is the multicultural Avenue Q, where Sesame Street-esque puppets rub shoulders with humans. Part felt, part flesh, Avenue Q contains full puppet nudity and other vulgarities that will induce laughter.
