G Day is a global social movement anchored by day-long events that emphasize self-esteem and leadership for girls ages 10-12.The event returns on Sunday, November 2nd at the Chan Centre for Performing Arts in Vancouver, BC. G Day is a much needed response to the unsettling fact that nearly half of Canadian girls have avoided social activities such as going to the beat, going to school, or giving an opinion because they feel badly about the way they look. This year’s event will include facilitated personal reflection, musical performances, and a dessert reception!

Queen Elizabeth Theatre
No. 29 features the return of audience favorite A.U.R.A., the explosive and intensely physical work by Italian choreographer Jacopo Godani. The program also includes a world premiere by the new voice of contemporary dance, Fernando Hernando Magadan, of Spain, and the Ballet BC premiere of An Instant by Vancouver-born Lesley Telford.
Vancouver Jewish Film Festival

Fifth Avenue Cinemas
Canada's longest running Jewish film festival returns November 6 - 13 at the Fifth Avenue Cinemas. The Vancouver Jewish Film Festival presents a collection of 25 of the best independent films that will appeal to film lovers of all kind including award-winning comedies, dramas, thrillers, and thought-provoking documentaries. There will be special events, guest speakers, gala parties, and Q & A sessions with actors and filmmakers including a rare visit from producer Nancy Spielberg on opening night.
11th Annual Downtown Eastside Heart of the City Festival

The Downtown Eastside Heart of the City Festival, an annual cultural and heritage event, serves as a high impact, bridge building force that gives voice to the Downtown Eastside and its low income residents, cultural communities and neighborhoods. The mandate is to promote, present and facilitate the development of artists, art forms, cultural traditions, history, activism, people and great stories about Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside!
The theme of the Festival this year is ‘Keeping the home fires burning,” inspired by the residents and artists of the Downtown Eastside who carry the flame of our community: they warm our hearts, shed light on pressing concerns, illuminate stories old and new, fire our imaginations, and keep the torch burning for the future.
The 2014 Festival features a feast of twelve days of music, stories, songs, poetry, cultural celebrations, films, theatre, dance, processions, spoken word, forums, workshops, discussions, gallery exhibits, mixed media, art talks, history talks and history walks, and an array of artists.

Circle Craft Christmas Market is a special time of year for Vancouverites and visitors to the city. Since 1973, Circle Craft has presented its annual winter market where the best of BC and Canadian craft is exhibited and sold – by the artisans themselves. In 2014, over 300 artisans (more than 60 new to the Market) will take part – clothing designers, potters, wood and metal workers, glass blowers, jewellers, toy makers, and more!

The2014 Sports Celebrities Festival presented by Silver Wheaton is an inspiring evening affair in support of the Canucks for Kids Fund and Special Olympics BC. Now in its 16th year, this popular gala has raised more than $3.2 million to support the life-changing programs of these two worthy causes. The entertaining evening includes opportunities to meet and mingle with the entire Vancouver Canucks roster along with fellow B.C. sports celebrities and Special Olympics athletes. Guests get to take on the Canucks in great games, enjoy outstanding entertainment, and bid on coveted items in the well-stocked auctions. The funds raised help empower athletes with intellectual disabilities to gain confidence, acceptance, and pride through sport, and also provide vital opportunities, resources and much-needed care to children and families throughout B.C.
Clayoquot Oyster Festival
November 14th – 15th
This year the Clayoquot Sound Oyster Festival celebrates its 18th anniversary of showcasing Tofino’s favourite bivalve. It is held annually on the 3rd week of November, coinciding with the beginning of the area’s oyster harvest as this is when oysters are at their plumpest. Approximately 50,000 gallons of oysters are harvested in Clayoquot sound every year and festival goers do their very best to keep many of these oysters from travelling very far since over the four nights 500-600 festival goers will slurp back around 8000 oysters.
World Prematurity Day

BC Women’s Hospital is celebrating World Prematurity Day on November 17, 2014. Premature birth affects 15 million families, worldwide, every year. 1 million babies die each year due to preterm birth and it is the number one cause of death in newborns. It is the second cause of death in children under 5.

The British Columbia Community Achievement Awards wants to celebrate those individuals who have excelled within music, civic duty, environmental leadership, justice and multiculturalism by accepting nominations for the BC Achievement Awards.

BC Women's Hospital Newborn ICU Campaign - "Hope Starts Here"
BC Women's Hospital is launching a $17million fundraising campaign for their Newborn Intensive Care Unit, to purchase vital equipment and technology. CTV Vancouver is proud to be involved in this important campaign and support BC Women's as they care for the tiniest and most fragile babies in the province.
Each year, as many as 1,400 critically ill newborns are admitted to BC Women's Newborn ICU. The doctors and nurses in the NICU rely on innovative equipment and state-of-the-art technology to deliver life-saving care for their tiny patients.
