The Village, the Farmhouse and the carousel will all be adorned in a ghoulish, spooky yet fanciful fashion. This year the decorations play with the theme of crows and Victorian steam punk. The new seasonal pastry chef proudly displays Lady Fingers; you can join The King of the Crows, the friendly steam punk DJ, for dancing on Hill Street; the Crowsery Store advertises Murders of Crows; Butcher's Block Cafe special is Crow's Feet; mummies are pressed into action at the Burnaby Post print shop; and you can enjoy the Circus Sideshow and ride the carousel! The Downtown Eastside Heart of the City Festival, an annual cultural and heritage event, serves as a high impact, bridge building force that gives voice to the Downtown Eastside and its low income residents, cultural communities and neighborhoods. The mandate is to promote, present and facilitate the development of artists, art forms, cultural traditions, history, activism, people and great stories about Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside!

The theme of the Festival this year is ‘Keeping the home fires burning,” inspired by the residents and artists of the Downtown Eastside who carry the flame of our community: they warm our hearts, shed light on pressing concerns, illuminate stories old and new, fire our imaginations, and keep the torch burning for the future.

The 2014 Festival features a feast of twelve days of music, stories, songs, poetry, cultural celebrations, films, theatre, dance, processions, spoken word, forums, workshops, discussions, gallery exhibits, mixed media, art talks, history talks and history walks, and an array of artists.

BC Women's Hospital Newborn ICU Campaign - "Hope Starts Here"




BC Women's Hospital is launching a $17million fundraising campaign for their Newborn Intensive Care Unit, to purchase vital equipment and technology.  CTV Vancouver is proud to be involved in this important campaign and support BC Women's as they care for the tiniest and most fragile babies in the province.

Each year, as many as 1,400 critically ill newborns are admitted to BC Women's Newborn ICU.  The doctors and nurses in the NICU rely on innovative equipment and state-of-the-art technology to deliver life-saving care for their tiny patients.
