Vancouver police are searching for two men who allegedly broke into an East Vancouver home and demanded money from a young child at gunpoint.

On June 17 around 3:30 p.m., two men dressed as construction workers allegedly broke into a house in the 3300-block of Dieppe Street while two children and their grandparents were at home.

The homeowner, Andrew, spoke to CTV News by phone. He says his parents and two young children were held in the living room for 19 minutes while the men ransacked the house.

“They came downstairs and asked where the money was, and my parents said there was no money,” he says. “The one guy hit my dad over the head with a gun again, and that’s when my daughter got mad. She yelled, and said ‘stop it, don’t do that!’”

Police say one of the men pointed a gun at the seven-year-old and demanded money. The little girl then went to her parents' bedroom and handed over the family piggy bank.

A number of other items were also stolen from the home, police add, including a unique Rolex Yachtmaster II steel and rose-gold watch.

“This was a heinous robbery, which will have an impact on a seven-year-old child and her family for the rest of their lives,” says VPD Sgt. Randy Fincham.

The two suspects were last spotted walking south on Dieppe Street, away from the home. Pictures of the men were captured on the home’s security camera.

The first man is described as white, between 25 and 45 years old, with a slim build, and a shaved head. Both of his arms are covered in tattoos.

The second man is dark-skinned, between 20 and 30 years old, with a medium build and a thin beard.

Both men were wearing reflective vests at the time of the alleged robbery. Dieppe Street had recently been a construction zone as several new homes were built, but police aren’t sure if the men had been working in the area.

Anyone who knows the identity of these two men is asked to call the VPD Major Crime Section at 604-717-2541 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
