A Metro Vancouver realtor has stitches in her face after a hair-raising attack during a routine property showing.
Remax agent Bryn Ward had just finished showing a property in New Westminster when a cat pounced on one of her clients out of nowhere.
“My client went to look out the window and all of a sudden she had a cat on top of her,” Ward told CTV News.
The attack was surprising because the realtor had not been told there was a cat living in the residence. She said the feral feline had been recently taken in by the property owner, and gave birth to kittens shortly after.
“I decided to be a hero and tried to get the cat off of her, and that’s when it just turned on me,” Ward said. “I’ve never seen a cat that has just not stopped attacking. It was out for blood.”
She said the cat clawed and bit her as she tried to wrestle it off her client.
“Finally I managed to pick it up, and its teeth were in me the whole time. I managed to get it into a room and shut the door,” she said.
Ward’s client had to be taken to the hospital for minor injuries, while the realtor had to get stitches in her face for a puncture wound.
Ward said she doesn’t blame the cat for the attack becase it was just being “protective,” but she should have been informed that the animal was in the house.
“As a realtor, we’re always nervous if we’re in a house by ourselves, if some crazy person comes,” she said. “I never anticipated that a crazy cat would damage me and my client.”
She said she’s been told the property owner feels “awful” about the attack, and that she doesn’t want the cat put down.
“They’re wild animals when it comes down to it, and they’re protective,” she said.
Needless to say, her clients didn’t buy the home.
“She had just said ‘This is not the house for me,’ when the attack happened,” Ward said. “After the attack, I don’t think she had changed her mind.”
