Some open fires remain prohibited in B.C.'s southeast, despite the arrival of rainfall and cooler temperatures.

The Southeast Fire Centre says the ban includes the burning of waste, slash stubble and grass and extends to fireworks, sky lanterns or burning barrels.

Campfires that are smaller than a half-metre wide and a half-metre high and cooking stoves that use gas, propane or briquettes are allowed.

The area extends from the U.S. border in the south to Mica Dam in the north and from the Okanagan Highlands and Monashee Mountains in the west to the B.C.-Alberta border in the east.
