Striking community social service workers plan a rally today in front of the Surrey-area constituency office of Children and Families Minister Stephanie Cadieux.

The protest by the BC Government and Service Employees Union members is part of ongoing job action to back demands for a new contract.

Union members will also stage a one-day walkout at seven other non-profit and social service organizations around Surrey, although they say essential service levels will be maintained.

Community social service workers across B.C. say they have faced a 22 per cent wage cut over the last decade and they are demanding a fair deal in the next contract covering the sector's 15,000 unionized members.
