B.C. Solicitor General Kash Heed has exempted himself from debate on his own legislation that seeks to amend the Police Act due to a conflict-of-interest complaint against him.

Heed left the legislature after making a statement excusing himself and just prior to the start of debate on Bill 7.

The complaint against Heed involves an allegation that he inappropriately had a conversation with a police board member about an investigation.

Heed, a former West Vancouver police chief, was the subject of a Police Act probe into the matter that was never completely resolved before he entered politics last spring.

The amended legislation does not involve the earlier allegations against Heed, who read documents in the legislature that he said cleared him.
