OCEAN SHORES, Wash. -- A five-metre row boat belonging to a missing B.C. man has been recovered in waters off Washington State, hundreds of kilometres from where Paul Clark was last spotted.

The U.S. Coast Guard said the boat was found capsized Thursday with the sails and oars intact off Ocean Shores, Wash.

There was no sign of Clark, who was on a solo trip from Prince Rupert to Port Hardy, B.C.

The 69-year-old was reported missing on July 11 after he failed to check in with a family member.

He was last seen near Aristazabal Island, B.C., about halfway to his intended destination. Weeks later, his boat was found more than 700 kilometres away down the Washington state coast.

A fishing boat came across Clark's vessel on Thursday morning, setting in motion a U.S. Coast Guard response team that included a helicopter crew from Oregon, a patrol boat from Washington, and a Fish and Wildlife crew from that state.

Crews found Clark's identification on the overturned boat and spent nearly three hours looking for him. The search was suspended pending any further information.

Coast Guard officials notified the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Victoria, and are co-ordinating the transfer of the vessel to Canadian officials.
