A teen girl had to be rescued on the North Shore after getting stuck on a trail on Tuesday night.

Rescue workers said the girl got stuck near the Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge at around 8 p.m. She was unable to get up the trail on her own, and had to be hauled up on a stretcher.

"Apparently she was with friends in the area," said Brian Hutchinson, assistant chief of the District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue.

"She got herself down into a situation that's not advisable, and there may be alcohol involved in the situation as well."

The teen did not appear to be physically injured, but was taken to hospital as a precaution, officials at the scene told reporters.

A person identifying herself as the teen who was rescued told CTV News that she'd been swimming in the canyon and suffered a seizure. In an email, she said that intoxication played no role in her need for the rescue.
