Ed Watson is a Legislative Reporter and the Victoria Bureau Chief for CTV News British Columbia.
After working in the broadcasting industry for more than 30 years, Ed is back at the helm as the Legislative Reporter and Victoria Bureau Chief for CTV British Columbia since February 2012.
Ed’s career began in Alberta as an anchor/reporter for CKRD-TV Red Deer, ITV (CITV) Edmonton (now Global Edmonton) and CFCN Calgary (CTV Calgary). He returned to B.C. in 1984 as a reporter and Night Final anchor for CBC Vancouver. Four years later he moved back to Victoria and began covering the B.C. Legislature for the CBC. From 1997 to 2001, Ed was VTV’s political correspondent and then from 2001 to 2004 he was the Legislative Bureau Chief for CTV British Columbia. He joined CH Television (CHEK-TV) in Victoria in 2004 as a senior news anchor for CH News and in 2010, just before the Vancouver Olympic Winter Games, Ed came back to CTV British Columbia as the Assignment Desk Editor.
His work has been recognized with national and regional awards for excellence in journalism including an Edward R. Murrow Award, a Gold Ribbon Award from the Canadian Association of Broadcasters, multiple Radio and Television News Directors Association awards along with an award and a journalistic fellowship from the Jack Webster Foundation.
Born and raised in Victoria, he attended Belmont Secondary School and graduated from BCIT’s Journalism program.
He is married and has three children. Ed enjoys cooking, hockey, sailing and gardening. In the past few years, Ed has run his own video production and media training company.
