An Abbotsford man has been charged with possession and distribution of child pornography as well as obstruction of justice following a police raid in June.

Police raided 39-year-old Brian Bell’s home and confiscated computers, phones, cameras, and hard drives in late June.

The unusual charge of obstruction of justice comes from when Bell allegedly tried to access one of the confiscated hard drives via cell phone.

“So in other words, he was trying to protect some of the data that we were trying to access, and that spawned an additional charge of obstructing of justice,” said Abbotsford Police spokesman Const. Ian MacDonald, “Pretty unusual charge…but obviously a very important investigation for us from a public safety standpoint.”

Bell has been released under court-ordered conditions, including no contact or communication with anyone less than 18 years of age and must stay away from anywhere children may be present.
