Nearly 500 homes and properties have been added to evacuation orders as wildfires flare in B.C.'s central Interior.

The latest evacuation orders from the Cariboo Regional District affect 306 homes in and around Anahim Lake, near the Heckman Pass wildfire in Tweedsmuir Park.

Similar evacuations cover 155 homes close to the Bull Canyon-Alexis Creek fire west of Williams Lake and about 25 people near the Tsacha Lake blaze north of Anahim Lake.

Forestry officials fear erratic winds from a cold front sweeping across the province could whip up wildfires, pushing fire activity right off the six-point scale of severity.
