1. Fire crews frustrated: Numerous human-caused fires over the long weekend – including one still burning near Harrison Lake – have left fire crews frustrated. Provincial Fire Information Officer Kevin Skrepnek said that more than 30 per cent of fires this summer have been caused by humans.

2. Teen dies after suspected overdose: A teenager has died after a suspected fentanyl overdose on Saturday night. Jack Bodie, a highschool student in Burnaby, was identified by friends who told CTV News he was “a nice guy and very outgoing.” Police say Bodie and another teen are believed to have taken fake Oxycontin which had fentanyl in them.

3. Humpback whale on show: A humpback whale was spotted in Howe Sound by a group of boaters and appeared to be playing around with some logs.

4. On camera: A woman has shared a cellphone video of what she says is a Craigslist ticket scammer. Shelley Burdeyney had planned on taking her daughter to the Taylor Swift concert on Saturday but the tickets they bought off Craigslist weren’t real. Burdeyney had bought the tickets near Brentwood Mall and caught the exchange on camera.

5. Keeping thrill-seekers safe: Firefighters were called to North Vancouver’s Lynn Canyon five times over the long weekend to help people injured or stuck after jumping from the Twin Falls Bridge. Asst. Fire Chief Mike Cairns said the swimming spot is a popular way to beat the heat, but several thrill-seekers have died in the area in recent years.
