1. Rent: The B.C. Non-Profit Housing Association has released a report that suggests a third of single mothers across the province spend more than half their gross income on rent alone. Both seniors and aboriginal people face a similar struggle and roughly 30 per cent of households in B.C. have no other choice but to rent.

2. Hold this for me: A young man with suspected ties to Surrey’s low-level drug trade has been arrested for allegedly confining a woman in a car, crashing the vehicle and then asking teenagers to help him hide a gun. Adding to the suspect’s day, the RCMP investigation into him uncovered a loaded AK47, handgun, cocaine and heroin.

3. Cold weather: Black ice and flash freezing is expected to hit Metro Vancouver this morning with officials suggestion residents drain exterior pipes and start looking at winter tires.

4. Searching for Stanley: A woman who suffers from severe depression is turning to the public to help find her lost therapy dogs. It went missing 65 days ago from her Qualicum Beach home while she we was on vacation.

5. UBC slammed: The University of B.C. is being slammed by a women’s group over its handling of allegations of sexual assault. Former and current students taking aim at the process have lambasted the system as broken and sexist.
