1. The results are (almost) in: The results of Metro Vancouver’s transit plebiscite is set to be released at 10 a.m. If enough “yes” votes are garnered, a tax hike would be brought in to pay for more transit options around the region.

2. Bogus bomb threat: An apparent bogus bomb threat prompted a WestJet flight from Vancouver to divert to Calgary Wednesday night. The plane was on its way to Toronto when it made the emergency landing. Calgary Police searched the plane and declared it was safe after finding no explosives. This is the fourth time in five days that a WestJet flight has been targeted by a threat.

3. Arrests at Cannabis Day: Four people were arrested at “Cannabis Day” held in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery on Canada Day. Police stepped in to arrest a man after they say he sold marijuana to minors. While protesters complained about treatment from police, police argued that they were immediately swarmed when they stepped in to make arrests.

4. Hot, hot, hot: Put away those beach barbeques. West Vancouver has raised its fire rating to ‘extreme’, forcing the ban of several activities across the city. The heat enveloping British Columbia even forced the cancellation of local Canada Day firework events over fire worries.

5. Whopper of a tale: A nine-year-old New Jersey boy made quite the catch during a trip to B.C. He managed to land a 270 kilogram sturgeon in the Fraser River.
