1. Storm cleanup: Crews are continuing to clean up from the massive windstorm that struck southwestern B.C. on Saturday. At its peak, the storm knocked out power to 500,000 BC Hydro customers.

2. Storm’s price tag: As residents begin cleaning up their properties following Saturday’s windstorm, insurance companies are starting to eye the eventual price tag for the damage. For comparison, the 2006 windstorm that damaged Stanley park left a $100-million bill while a 2013 ice storm in Eastern Canada has topped $200 million.

3. Weeks of work: Vancouver’s deputy city manager says it could take several weeks to clear up all the debris left behind by a brutal windstorm that whipped the area this weekend. As of early Monday morning, 90,000 people were still without power in the region, and BC Hydro says some customers won’t be restored until late this evening.

4. Defending actions: A former police officer has released video showing Vancouver police shooting a suspect after a dramatic Yaletown shootout in 2014. Leo Knight says he is showing the surveillance video as a response to the Independent Investigations Office – the province’s police watchdog – submitting a report that an officer may have committed a crime during the pursuit of the gunman.

5. Shot the line and went for broke: A man attempted to avoid an impaired driving checkpoint on a Gulf Island early Saturday morning by ramming a parked police car. Salt Spring Island RCMP say the man later tried to set his car on fire after breaking through the roadblock.
