1. Budget standoff: The Vancouver School Board has voted against $24-million in proposed budget cuts, despite assurances from B.C.'s Education Minister that he's willing to fire trustees if they don't balance the books. 

2. Lego larceny: A Langley man has been sentenced to several months in jail after being found with a large quantity of stolen Lego. Smith was arrested in the fall in connection with a guns and drugs investigation, according to an RCMP release. At the time, officers executed a search warrant and found a large quantity of Lego in his home. 

3. Shroom pollution: The federal government is investigating two B.C. mushroom farms after reports from neighbours that two local waterways may have been polluted with a substance that smells like raw sewage. 

4. Ride’s again: Four years after he won his first Kentucky Derby, jockey Mario Gutierrez will look to win his second one. Although he was born in Mexico, Gutierrez did much of his racing at Hastings Stable making him a favourite of Vancouverites. 

5. Strike vote: Metro Vancouver transit workers have voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action after talks broke down with employer Coast Mountain Bus Company. Their union says a strike can still be avoided if the company presents a "reasonable" offer.
