DELTA, Canada -- Three youths face aggravated assault charges after an 18-year-old man was stabbed multiple times outside a high school in Delta, B.C.

The Delta Police Department says officers arrived on the scene at about 11 p.m. Saturday after a report about an altercation behind the school.

Police found a young man suffering from significant stab wounds and say he remains in hospital in critical condition.

The department says three males under the age of 18 were arrested as they attempted to escape from the area and that they have been remanded in custody.

Police say the victim and the suspects know each other and that officers are confident that there is no connection between the school and a fight that escalated to an extreme level.

Investigators say the area includes playing fields, parks and a large open area used by many groups for a variety of reasons.
