A home in East Vancouver was behind police tape Friday morning after a "violent incident" that ended in two men being rushed to hospital.

Sgt. Brian Montague said officers arrived at the home near East Georgia Street and Boundary Road around 9 a.m. after receiving reports of a fight, shots fired, and men with knives.

The injuries of the two men taken to hospital aren't known.

One neighbour who didn’t want to appear on camera said she heard a gunshot, while others recall waking up to police outside their homes.

“All I saw was the cops there, and my back alley was being taped up,” said one man.

Construction workers in the area were told by police to stand down until further notice.

Montague said the VPD Emergency Response Team and negotiators were at the scene and the home has been contained.

A large number of armed VPD officers, including K9 members, were seen around the perimeter of the home and in the alley behind it.

Two people considered persons of interest were taken into custody and a number of witnesses were taken to the police station for questioning.

The area was closed to traffic as police investigate.
